How can we translate a standard or a charter into practical applications in a local context?
Vincent Commenne

The central topic of the work the workshop is undertaking in its 2007-2008 phase will be to answer the "research question": How can we translate a standard or a charter into practical applications in a local context? Or, in other words, how do we switch from global to local?

The tools which the workshop will use to meet this aim are:

  1. a conceptual project for drawing up a "Charter of economic actors' responsibilities";
  2. the application of this charter to practical cases during multi-stakeholder dialogue groups (DGs) in 5 continents.

In the 2007-2008 cycle, the following phases are thus planned:

  1. writing a Charter of economic actors’ responsibilities;
  2. developing a methodology for dialogue then organising a meeting of the 5-6 DG facilitators;
  3. piloting the dialogues (1 case per continent): application of the charter (and possibly of indicators or standards) during dialogue groups between actors. The charter will have to be discussed in relation to one or more practical cases involving various territorially-based economic actors;
  4. drafting DG reports;
  5. drafting a summary report;
  6. end-of-cycle meeting and decision on the following cycles.
